Malaysian Recipes - Malaysian Lamb Parcel

This traditional Malay dish is the 'mini' version of the much bigger Murtabak which is very popular with rich and poor alike.
It is often eaten at breakfast and from then on throughout the day whenever the urge is felt ;-0)

Ingredients Other Ingredients
  • 500 grams minced lamb, preferably with 10 percent fat.
  • 50 mls cooking oil
  • 1 large onion
  • 20 grams of ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 5 grams korma curry powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 packet of spring rolls pastry measuring 150mm X 150mm
  • 2 Carrots
  • 50 grams White Cabbage
  • 2 sticks of Celery
  • Method
  • Cut the celery in half and use the lower half of each stick.
  • Julienne the carrots, cabbage and the celery and cross cut the celery into small cubes.
  • Chop the ginger and garlic finely and cut the onion into cubes.
  • Heat the cooking oil in a pan.
  • Fry the ginger, garlic, the onion and cinnamon stick till fragrant.
  • Add the mincemeat and fry another 10 minutes until it looks dry.
  • Add in the julienned celery and the carrots, mix well with the mincemeat and turn off the fire.
  • In a separate bowl put the julienned white cabbage and microwave for up to 2 minutes.
  • Whisk 2 small eggs and add them to the mincemeat.
  • Now put the prepared mincemeat in spring roll pastry and fold 4 corners to make it look like a parcel.
  • Pan fry the parcel, turn it over when it goes brown and when it is brown on both sides it is ready to serve.
